New Year’s Resolutions!

Well, here are my new year’s resolutions:

1. Worry less.
2. Be less judgmental.
3. Live simply.
4. Give more.
5. Expect less.
6. Eat more fruits and vegetables.
7. Exercise more.

There you go, nothing too specific, but hopefully I’ll work on each thing a little bit each day.

Today we went into NYC to visit Arlinda, my cousin. I was taking the whole family into the city for a lunch date and it seemed so silly to go all the way to NYC for just a lunch date, but I hadn’t seen Arlinda in over 8 years and I’m glad that we did it because I had fun and it was a beautiful day and we all ran around Central Park.

(Look at the previous entries – I added some photos to the entries now that I finally have a reliable internet connection.)

Happy new year to all!

  1. Well today is the first day of the new year. So how are you doing on those resolutions? We got back on Weds from Santa Barabara and I promptly got sick. So, I’ve been sleeping like crazy. That is my resolution, to sleep more. So far, I’m doing splendidly!

Question for you or Jeremy or any math minded type. I want to walk to China via my pedometer. I am going to keep a daily log. How many steps would that be? Love, Sheila

  2. The straight line distance between Austin and Beijing is approximately 7126 miles or 11468 kilometers.

Do you know how long your stride is or how many steps you take in a mile? If not there are a bunch of tips about how to calibrate your pedometer at this site.

Using the typical stride length for a 5′ 6″ woman of 27 inches you would take 2324 steps in a mile and 16 million 564 thousand and 68 steps from Austin 78704 to Beijing (7126 miles). At 10,000 steps a day this will take about four and a half years. That is a bit better than the trip to Singapore (9836 miles) which would take six years and 3 months. We would not be there by then so perhaps it would be better to walk to Albany (1577 miles) which will take exactly a year. You could celebrate by coming to see us, although I guess January might not be the best time.
