Downtown.

Every summer, downtown Rockville has free live music/movie/events scheduled every week (maybe even twice a week). This is our 4th summer and I don’t think I’ve ever made any of the performances. This week, we decided to go see Seamus Kennedy on Thursday night.

The best part of the evening was when Vince took Edda to the front of the crowd when Seamus Kennedy asked for all the children in the audience to come up. They sang The Unicorn Song – and Vince helped Edda do all the hand motions. Very sweet.

Camp JCC

We are very lucky that this summer Vince and Edda get to go to the same camp! They are going to the JCC camp for most of the summer and it sounds great (I hope it’s great). We get to explain a lot of (mainly food) Jewish things to the kids like why you can’t order a bacon sandwich at the Subway shop that is in the JCC or why there is soy cheese on the kosher turkey sandwich. We went to an orientation of sorts last weekend and Edda was asleep when she met her counselor who had to tell her – no sleeping at camp! (I’m not sure how well that is going to work out).

The big hit of the orientation was tie-dying a shirt – I did Edda’s as she was fast asleep.

Vince has been seeing Edda’s OT for a few months now to work on some handwriting issues – mainly persistent letter reversals and various spacing issues. He loves working with Deb and getting a few minutes at the end of each session to run free through all the toys that line the walls of the therapy room.

It always amuses me that when I’m in the waiting room with both the kids and there are other parents also in waiting room. And then – I do NOT send in the severely disable child into the treatment room. Ha ha, talk about a curveball! Yes! Both my kids need OT.

Pizza dinner –

We always look for an excuse to have pizza for dinner ;). A bunch of Jeremy’s coworkers were in our neighborhood during the week (which never happens – we live in the boonies) and so we took them out for pizza. Edda was thrilled.

Vince just loves toddlers – sometimes it makes me think I should have a handful more kids. Except for the fact that I have no more time or energy ;).

Othodontist.

Took Edda to the orthodontist last week. I love Edda’s orthodontist. He is really sweet and has a nephew with Angelman syndrome and showed me the bite marks on his arm that he got when he was playing with his nephew over Memorial Day weekend. Ahhh, yes, we all know about getting bitten! Yeow! We go yearly to make sure that Edda’s teeth are coming in OK – this time he mentioned that he could fix Edda’s under-bite with a mouth guard-type thing that Edda would wear a couple of hours every day at home. No molds necessary. He had already successfully realigned his nephew’s jaw and said it worked really well, although he did mention that his newphew enjoyed chewing the appliance so much that he went through half a dozen of them. Interesting. I think we will go ahead and try this out and see if Edda minds having this plastic thing in her mouth for a few hours a day. Low risk – perhaps no underbite anymore!

It has been a week full of teeth issues – Maxi had a rotten molar. Apparently her mom did not bother with good prenatal care – Maxi just has bad, bad teeth. We got it yanked last Friday. Vince insisted that I bring home the rotten tooth – he took one look at it and said that I could throw it out. Thank goodness.

More Communication Gears Than Ever

Now, I have the most communication gears in my whole life. Before coming back from China, I have seven active phones (4 land lines and 3 cells), one mobile USB in China by “China Mobile”, one US BlackBerry and two laptops. After I came back, I added an AT&T mobile hot spot to my list. Before going back to China (I hope pretty soon after I get my working visa there from here), I should add one iPhone (my friend would like me to get one for him.) Don’t exactly to know what to do with all these. Not very efficiently at least. Especially, carry them around in and out of airports. I guess it is quite different to be an IT guy to support an active project – on call 24/7/365 🙂
