I’m done. Kind of.

Finished out the term today.  Thank goodness.  I was underprepared for the final – I could have used another 4 hours of focused study, but I think I’ll be happy with the performance vs work ratio.  Time is passing quickly – 5 out of the 8 semesters done.  Even though it stresses me out, I’m enjoying it.  I better be – I’m not going back another time to get a third college degree.

This vocabulary word in Chinese means “typist”.  Vince had to learn the English word after learning the Chinese word.  He’s like what the heck is a typist.

~ Professional Framing :)

For a long while, I know that professional framing people always get framing ready laying on the flat ground surface first before erect it into position.  Since I am not sure about my measurement, I always build things in 3 dimensional space using screws.  This way, I can make sure everything falls into their proper places.  If not, I can un-screw it and do it again.

But, everything has its start.  Therefore, while making the shelf for four plastic storage containers, I decided to follow what professional always do. Get it ready on the flat ground surface first – I made two identical longitudinal framing with five (5) 2×4 first.  Then erected it.  The result is pretty good I think.

No bueno.

It got to 70 degrees today in DC.  As Vince would say – it’s no bueno.  Running past blooming bushes and confused trees.  I ran in my regular summer running outfit, which was delightful, but still – it’s no good.  I’m suppose to be running in layers of technical fabric and gloves.  I hope that winter comes soon.  Maybe we should start drying our clothes on a line strung across our staircase.

I have a final tomorrow.  I’ve been procrastinating studying all weekend.  As a matter of fact, I’m procrastinating right now.

Edda spent some time today considering her clothing options.  Hmmm, what to wear tomorrow?

Gingerbread houses.

Untitled

I went gingerbread house decorating with a bunch of old neighborhood friends.  They are such old neighborhood friends that a few of them don’t live in the neighborhood anymore.  It’s terrible how someone moves, I swear, 1.5 miles away (but over the freeway) or 10 miles away and you just don’t cross paths anymore.  Edda stayed home with a sitter, Vince and Jeremy went to a concert in Virginia and I went to put sugar on a house.  Jeremy met a nice person at the concert and said that it would have been great to include this person in our social circle, but said person lives in Virginia and that it would just be impossible to be good friends with a person in Virginia.  I can’t even be good friends to my good friends who live 1.5 miles from me (but over the freeway).

I spent a lot of effort on the roof.  But then I lost creative steam and started to eat the candy.

Everyone else took photos of the houses, I took a photo of my pals.

Mom First Painting

This is the first painting ever by Mom.  I am really surprised that she is that good – at least, I think she is.
I have married to her about 45 years and known her over about 50 years +.  Never know she has such painting talent. She was a sharp shooter also.  Really amazing what she can do 🙂  I know she is also a farmer and gardener.

Most Likely, I Got a Job Offer

Most likely, but not official yet, I got a job offer.  The starting date is in January of next year right after our South America 14-day cruise.

Therefore, I will continuously work on my garage projects, instead of starting new work in basement.  I would like to put up several permanent shelves to replace old plastic ones.

With my new job prospect, I will be in a better position to buy more construction materials and store them (not returning) for future use.  In other words, not under tight budget with endless efforts to cut down inventory as before, I don’t have to buy-and-return-the-unused ones all the time.

While doing this, I discovered a funny experience on the side.  Sometime, the freezer (in the garage), after opening and closing, is locked solid due to the pressure differential of rapid cooling of warm air inside the freezer.  The better way to close a freeze is to leave a small gap for a while before completely close. This way, the freezer can be opened right away with less pressure differential.  Or otherwise, it is completely locked by atmospheric pressure exerting on top of the door.

I just wonder why the freeze doesn’t come with a small relief valve to let air in, in order to equalize the pressure inside out, just like the way to start a diesel engine with an air outlet for all its engine cylinders.
