I guess there are feelings about trunk and treats. I have no idea about this activity, I’ve never been to one, I’ve never taken my kids to one, I don’t think I’ve even seen one – so they only exist in my feeble imagination – the only association I have is with evangelical churches…so generally in the I’m not interested category. But we are having one at my church (180 degrees from evangelical) and they didn’t have enough cars signing up and I want to meet the families and I’m semi-leadership, so there I am. And because I like to do nice things for my husband and he really wanted to do Halloween, I bought like 18 bags of chocolate which were incredibly, shockingly expensive and so I’m determined to not eat it all (which is expensive calorically), so I need to give it away so the money spent and calories eaten will be distributed among many many people. I will report back. This is not happening Halloween night, rather Halloween afternoon. Anyways, it’s always too much candy.
Jeremy’s organization recently switched retirement account providers. For about 20 years, it’s been through Fidelity which has been fine – I’ve heard of Fidelity, I like Fidelity – though their website should be better and more user friendly, I prefer Vanguard’s website. Anyways, I was just chugging along, making sure that it was still there every once in a while so that we can retire someday. And then suddenly I got (I mean Jeremy got– I open all the mail) a letter saying that they were switching to a company I’ve never heard of like Churchill Downs (not the real company name) and I was holding the letter and asking Jeremy – so….has your work mentioned that they were switching the 401k over to Churchill Downs? WTF is that about? Do I need to transfer all the money from Fidelity over to this horse-racing-investment firm? Do I need to reallocate our contributions? What is happening here? Jeremy kind of looked at me and said…oh yeah. there’ve been emails and q&a sessions about that, I think. I just paid no attention to them. I look at him incredulously. You went to no information sessions? Hahahahaha. I don’t know how this turned out to be, but I’ve done all this financial stuff for the family and as we near retirement I get anxious about it all and Jeremy has access to it all so he can check whenever he wants to – but he does not want to. He is free to not think about it very much and he very much enjoys not thinking about it. I may think about it too much. I’m working on that. Hopefully I can figure out this new Churchill Down investment firm’s website. Wish me luck!
