Hurricane Isabel hit last night. Knocked out our power for 3-4 hours. Hoped for a “snow day” for Jeremy, but nope…

Well, well, well. Vince got up at 9 this morning because of the late night last night. But thankfully, he went down for his nap pretty well.
I’ve had a bunch of stupendous accomplishments this week:
1. Beat out a bunch of moms to sign Vince up for storybook hour at the Pleasant Valley Library.
2. Remembered that trash night was Monday and not Tuesday, thus proving to Jeremy I was not losing my mind.
3. Finding a wallet at Bard and returning it fully intact.
Yesterday was a long day for me. Vince slept at 10 am on the way to Bob and Katherine’s, so the afternoon nap was shot. So it was a long afternoon for me. Shannon and Lauren came over for the chemistry tutoring by Jeremy and Vince had a blast. He was so excited that even though we drove home at 10 pm, he didn’t fall asleep in the car.
This weekend was really nice. Sometimes I think we are really bored and don’t really do anything. Other times I think we are overbooked. On Saturday, we went over to Jonathon and Christine’s house and played with Jillian, Mattie and Dakota. It was really enjoyable. Their house is sparcely furnished which made playing in the house a lot of fun. Vince actually played by himself in an upstairs bedroom while everybody downstairs was playing with the playstation. On Sunday was my birthday, the Martin’s came over and brought over this delicious blackberry and peach pie. Wonderful!
We went to Li-hua’s new house last night. She just moved in a few weeks ago. Her husband and son live in Long Island and she goes home every weekend to see them and become a soccer mom. Vince did eat a lot at her house, especially the soup. When he’s done eating and wants to play, the soup starts dribbling out of his mouth.
Last night we went over to the Rozman’s house to see Susan. She has not a bit of hair on her head and she looks so much like Carla now (not that Carla has no hair.) I guess you concentrate a lot on the face with the hair all gone. She seems so well and energetic now that she is on her break of chemo. She says the three days of chemo really kicks her ass. We had so much pizza and ice cream. It was a lot of fun. Vince was also screaming his head off, really, really enjoying himself. The moon was out in full glory and Mars was smack dab next to it. The weather is so wonderful.
Yushan showed up last night and we had a wonderful late night dinner. Vince was so excited to see him and loved having another person at the table, he wouldn’t go to sleep until everybody had retired. This morning I had to face a mountain of laundry and dishes and trash in the house. The study is our disaster area. I really have to work on that! Bob is going to buy me a music stand for my birthday and Katherine gave me an old alto plastic recorder that they had lying around. I just have to get it recorked. My list of things to by that cost more than $30 is increasing rapidly. We’re still trying to stick with our budget. It makes the week more fun for me actually (adds a bit of a challenge.) Vince is too young for the playgroup co-op and also there isn’t any space, so maybe next year. We checked out the Millbrook training center and spa, which is really nice and active. There is a nice child care center where I left Vince for 10 minutes while I checked the place out. He screamed his head off. Just great!
Wonderful day. This weekend has just been the most gorgeous weather. Yesterday I went to the Recorder Society of Conn. and had a wonderful 3 hours of friendly chatter and playing. Today we went hiking with the doggies and Bob and Katherine near Pine Plains. Then we went home to Bard and hung out for a little while. Now we are waiting for Yushan to come in from LA. Poor guy, he landed at 5 pm and now it is 8 already.
We had dinner at the Martin’s last night. It’s wonderful to see all the students back at Bard. It was also wonderful to let Ruby run off leash at Blythewood last night. She just careened all over the place, ran to students, ran around the fountain. Lovely.
Had a wonderful Labor Day weekend with my family. Donald flew into NYC on Wed and hung out with friends and came up to Poughkeepsie on Thursday. I showed him the house in Millbrook and then we drove with the Rubister to Bard. Took him to the Burrito Shack, but he said he needed some meat in his burritos. Oh well, I thought they were yummy. Then he took a nap and we spent the afternoon bumming around. That night, we had a hectic dinner at the Martin’s. There were some guests there who had to catch a train and leave pretty early and we wanted to too, but we were all a little late in leaving. Ruby sat in the footwell of the car and we drove down, stopping a long time for gas in NJ, but made it home by 2 am. Vince let us sleep in until 8:30 the next morning. Hurrah! Then that evening we went to Kinkaid’s, a seafood place in DC. It was nice, Dad babysat and we really enjoyed our 5th year wedding anniversary. And the ring! I got the ring1 Beautiful :). Margaret and Andrea came into town and we really enjoyed ourselves. We had so much cake.
