I am not taking enough photos. Here’s one of Jeremy ironing.
Year: 2007
Ruby in the trunk.
On a short drive, because we weren’t driving the station wagon, we put Ruby in the spacious (but dark) trunk of the car and opened the little ski pass through to let in a little light into the trunk.
But Ruby did not like being in the trunk and wiggled her way out while we were navigating neighborhood roads.
Shhhh, don’t tell Edda.
Jeremy started looking into getting Edda a harness or a swing that she could use indoors. He was thinking of a simple door jam set-up with not that much hardware because, well, this isn’t our house and we don’t want to put in a nail hole if we don’t have to.
Mom and Dad were home this weekend and took one look at our plans and being the engineers that they are, the took down some drywall within 15 minutes and looked at the internal structure of the house. I guess we are putting in permanent eye hooks into the ceiling. Pretty cool.
Weaned!
Here is a photo from the day Edda was born. I am trying to get some good latching going.
I waited a few weeks to actually write this down, but after over 3.5 years, Edda is finally weaned. I never, ever, thought in a million bazillion years thought I would nurse this long, but what can I say? Edda liked it and who was I to tell her that she needed to give it up? Edda was always a very efficient nurser – gulp, gulp, gulp – 10 minutes every 3-4 hours and she turned out to be a fat, fat baby. Vincent, he would suckle for hours and drive me up the wall and people constantly would ask if he was getting enough milk. Hey, it’s still kind of like that now with the regular food. Can’t nail Vince down to the dinner table, but Edda will sit and eat for an hour without stopping.
Finally, since June of 2001, I don’t have have a little parasite either living in me or sucking the life out of me. Whew.
Big news and sledding.
Oh happy, happy day!
The kids had a 2-hour delay for school today. Jeremy took the kids sledding. The big hill in the neighborhood is right behind our house. Vince is in the back, we don’t have any snow boots for him this season. Edda went down the hill once, we think she enjoyed it, but she generally doesn’t like the cold.
What’s the big news? Ha ha ha ha ha! (No, I’m not pregnant!)
Argh!
I bought vegan donut holes from Whole Foods! Yuck!
Snow!
Festival of Lights.
Tonight is the first night of Hanukkah. Jeremy’s 50% Jewish, which means the kids are 25% Jewish, which is a good enough reason to spin the dreidel and light the menorah. Really, it needs to be called the Festival of Fatty Foods because every delicious Hanukkah food is deep fried or slathered with sour cream or butter.
Potato pancakes, glistening with oil.
Jeremy enjoying said potato pancakes with sour cream.
Vincent lighting the candles.
Edda enjoying her challah bread.
If I were a rich man – Vince enjoying his loot during the dreidel game.
Dancing.
Jeremy takes tremendous pleasure in dressing Edda in delightful outfits. Last week was picture day at school, she got dressed in a plaid dress with a matching overcoat and hat.
Jeremy and Vince tried to get Edda to smile outside where the light was better for photos, but it was a little chilly and Edda was not amused. She just wanted to be warm.
Thermostat.
We have been keeping the thermostat at 66F during the day in an effort to save some money on the heating bill which I know is going to be heartbreaking no matter what we do. Everyone has on thick sweaters and toasty winter slippers except Ruby who tries to find a sunny spot to sleep in.
At 5 pm I could stand it no longer and I cranked the heat up to a balmy 70F. Within 30 minutes, Vince was watching the Muppets Take Manhattan in the nude and I was walking around in my bare feet enjoying the tropical temperatures in the house.
Sadly, now it’s 8:30 pm and the downstairs thermostat has clicked in to its nighttime setting of 50F. Brrr, I gotta get upstairs under the blankets.
