Turned out when we went to visit the famous George Stricker on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, someone else had the same plans, but took a different mode of transportation.
GWB’s personal helicopter.
For Edda (who was sick this weekend and was such a trooper – dragged every which way we went this weekend), I decided that my big contribution this year was to help out with the Fairfax, VA stroll-a-thon and to organize the silent auction.
I met so many families and friends who donated and Katherine spent evenings helping me out with the bid sheets and the displays and Jeremy watched the kids and put them to bed by himself for a whole week after he’d taken care them all day and there were a bunch of great folks who helped – with the money collection and with general PR, it was really great. We raised over $5000 at the silent auction alone. Whew, I’m beat.
Vince boogied with the DJ!
Look who we visited today on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. The famous George Stricker!
We ate at the Crab Claw.
The famous George Stricker lives less than 10 miles away from the Rumsfeld’s and the Cheney’s weekend retreat.
I have let more than half the month pass without mentioning RSAM, otherwise known as Rett Syndrome Awareness Month. Interesting it coincides with BCAM – Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Everything is pink in the stores! Coolers, hammers, cream cheese are all pink this month for BCAM. Wow, if I could get even a pinch of the same interest in RSAM, it would be lovely – I guess would everything be purple? Hmmm…
Anyways, this whole week, I’ve given up my lunch time gym hour (I already feel the fat settling into areas previously dominated by muscles) to organize (and stress out about) the silent auction over at this weekend’s stroll-a-thon in Fairfax, VA. I was doing well with corporate sponsorships and asking for donations until I got hit with this “full-time employment” thing. Such a time sink, you know, making a living and making sure everyone has perks like health insurance. I still have grand plans to ask another 40 people while printing out brochures for the silent auctions. We’ll see how much I get done. Anyways, if you are reading and want to donate to a worthy cause, here’s the link. Be sure to put Fairfax, VA for program area and Edda in the comments area. Every penny counts!
So since, work is sending me across the Atlantic, I’m wondering if i shouldn’t take a week off afterwards and travel a bit.
Where do you think I should go? I’m thinking Amsterdam at the moment.
Having Vince in the same school system as the one I grew up in really makes me think fondly of my own childhood. His school is pretty new, but the design is the same as my own elementary school, the stage is the same, the cafeteria is the same – well, it’s not exactly true, everything seems a lot smaller to me now. I even remember using the same headphones to listen to stories when I was a kid.
