Jeremy bought a bike on Craigslist bringing our total bicycle count to 4. The bike is a little strange. Somehow there is a super-low gear that seems really kludge-y. WTF did they do to the bike? (There is such beautiful light in the garage with the doors open, maybe I can move all our dinner parties to the garage so I can take beautiful pictures of everyone there…)

11 thousand people in the house.
We have eleven thousand people in the house (well not at this minute, everyone just left). Jeremy loves having eleven thousand people in the house. He loves the cooking, the talking, the chaos and the rush of activities. I like having a lot of people in the house, but I also need a little bit of “alone time” to keep my own sanity.
Do you remember the immense box?
We put it together this weekend. It’s really heavy and it’s very German and it’s the biggest thing we have in the house.
Tart yogurt.
We went to our favorite local ice cream place and ordered this new-fangled thing the kids are calling “tart yogurt“. Apparently it’s frozen yogurt that tastes exactly like yogurt, a little sour.
Edda fell asleep while enjoying some non-tart yogurt. Notice little drool spot on Jeremy’s shirt.
Behind the times.
Sometimes I feel a little behind the times. I don’t twitter, I’m on facebook, but I don’t really get it, also I don’t have a cell phone which can access the internet, it was only within the past year or so that I’ve learned to keep the cell phone charged and with me so I can answer phone calls. I’m turning into an old fogey.
My in-laws are in town this weekend and they are raving about google on their phone and possibly giving up their landline. I can not believe that I’ve become old fashioned because I’m only a blogger.
Someone is losing a tooth.
Some Pictures To Share
These are pictures to share:
My first p*tent.
I finally got my first p*tent issued this week:
Radiation curable phase change inks containing curable epoxy-polyamide composite gellants.
US P*tent 7,531,582.
New au pair.
Full house this week. Jeremy’s at the airport picking up Eliana, our new au pair who is from Columbia (we are all excited to practice our Dora the Explorer Spanish, Vamanos!). Yvonne’s last day of work is Thursday, but her mom and sister are coming to spend a whirlwind two weeks vacationing and sightseeing in the US with our house as their home base. Jeremy’s parents are also coming this weekend. A total of ten people in the house. We are careening into summer…
We are also trying to get a little more exercise into our routine. Jeremy’s trying to shove a morning run into the schedule.
Argument and making up.
Jeremy and I went to work together today in our car because I had to stop off at the dentist (first thing – 8 am) for my replacement mouth guard and Jeremy had to bring a cake to work. We bickered during the car ride to the dentist and to the Metro station. We bickered about the car, basically I think something is wrong with the car and Jeremy thinks that I’m a silly woman for thinking something is wrong with the car because it is running just FINE and I’m a silly, totally overly concerned woman. Anyways, the bickering devolved into where exactly the paperwork for the car servicing was to be kept (glove compartment? or filing cabinet?) which then led to a tense discussion of the overall state of the mailing and billing department of the Lee-Martin household which is better than it was a few months ago, but still in a state of disarray. Anyhow, we apologized to each other about the bickering by the time we got on the Metro and spent the ride quietly reading the free paper they give out.
After a productive day (mainly at Jeremy’s work, I, on the other hand, managed to mainly eat a bunch of twizzlers while searching fruitlessly for phosphorus-based flame retardants on Google), I was riding home on the subway when I pulled into Farragut North, Jeremy’s stop on the way home. There were a million people on the platform whizzing by as the train was slowing to a stop. When the train came to a full stop, Jeremy was standing right outside my window and I waved hello. How did he figure that one out?
Mothers!
I had a wonderful Mother’s day. I hope your Mother’s day was nice too! My kids let me sleep in until 7:30 am when they appeared in the bedroom with breakfast in bed…
I got my favorite breakfast, a one-eyed-giant (which is what we call bread with a circle cut out from the middle and an egg cracked into it and then fried until semi-soft yolk), some bacon, fruit and tea.
