Therapy time.

On of the things I dislike the most about having a special needs kids is the constant guilt that one has about not spending every minute of the day doing some sort of therapy. Nothing can just be just “for fun”. There is always more stuff to do, more stuff to try and things are so slow with Edda that sometimes, well, often I just throw my hands in the air. Since I’ve been working, I haven’t been in touch with her school, I don’t know what’s going on, I know I should call them more and figure out what they are working on, but I’m just lame.

I just want to whine a little! I’ll be all better tomorrow, I promise.

Jeremy is starting his real job tomorrow! Wish him luck!

(PS Donald, I love the little flash.)

New Year’s Resolutions.

DSC_0207

Last year’s resolutions are all touchy-feely.

Let’s go for some more concrete resolutions this year.

Hmm…

  • Find a great hair stylist who I like and won’t charge an arm and a leg. I don’t like to get my hair cut because I can’t find someone I like and therefore I’m starting to look like a yeti.
  • Get back into running and run outside during lunch.
  • Spend more time with friends.
  • Concentrate more time on raising research funds for Rett Syndrome. I did a little last year and did pretty well, but I know I can do better!
  • Happy New Year!

Tonight was pretty fun. We all went over to Ann’s place for a potluck dinner and ended up being a Christina drunk extragavanza. Laff. 4 bottle of champagne and 2.5 bottles of wine were consumed. Bridge was played. Set was played. We didn’t leave until 4:30am. The new year was rung in in style.

    Happy 2008 folks!

    The dentist.

Sometimes, the world just plays a trick on you and messes with your mind. For months now, I’ve been nervous about sending the kids to the dentist. In truth, I’ve been nervous about sending Edda to the dentist – would she scream, would her teeth be all terrible because of the grinding/mouthing/poor brushing? Nope, everything went fine with her last week, everything looked great.

Vince had his check-up today. He has EIGHT cavities. I just about fainted when Jeremy relayed the message to me on the phone. Apparently, he does a good job brushing, it’s just that his teeth are so tightly packed together and we haven’t been flossing so that there is decay between all of his back molars. This means FOUR separate return visits to the dentist to fix them. Sometimes I just want to sit down and hold my head for a little while. Did I mention that I am still sick?

The return of the college roomates.

After Christmas, with everyone scattering homeward or to the jungles of Bolivia, Jeremy, Donald and the kids motored to upstate New York to spend a few days with Kiki and Kappa.

Along the way, the females of the group (Edda and Ruby) both had major post-Christmas dinner digestive issues which stunk up the whole car leaving the males wondering which one of the “I’m not telling because I can’t speak English, but I’m damn cute” females was responsible for making the car smell like a feed lot.

I, on the other hand, avoided the poopmobile and worked for a few days. I took the infamous Chinatown bus ($20 from DC-NYC) where I overheard conversations about illicit pharma transactions and coughed my way through stops in Baltimore, Philly and finally NYC.

I spent the evening with Karen, my college roommate, who broke a long tradition of eating out to cook a spaghetti dinner for me. I was very happy.

Jeremy spent the previous evening with his college roommate, Alan, and met his lovely wife and daughter.
