Working hard and juggling.

Our wonderful nanny, who is now qualified to be a nurse, got a wonderful job this week. So now the juggling starts – there are 4 weeks until our au pair comes. Our nanny is still willing to help us out when she can, my job is getting more flexible albeit far away and Jeremy can work from home in an emergency, so with the three of us (and help from our far flung parents who are coming in to pinch hit) we are going to make it the 4 weeks. I started today by putting in a 12 hour day today – I left before the kids woke up and then I came home after they were in bed. I worked 12 hours today because I had to stay at home yesterday to hang with Vince who is sick and tomorrow I need to stay home with both Vince (who is still sick) and Edda (who may or may not have a case of oral thrush). And I will have to go in on Saturday if I don’t want to exhaust all my sick leave and vacation time.

I wanted to post a picture of my tissue box. I got a compliment on it today!

Last night, we had 2 people over for dinner. Even though they both live in Southern California and they are both our friends, they did not know each other. You see that Ruth has purple curls in her hair and Yushan is wearing the standard engineer’s uniform of a polo shirt in a single color.

Jeremy had neglected to tell me that one friend would be spending the night and therefore I neglected to clean out the bathroom of the guest room, which is where I take my daily bath and the ring around the tub was really gross.

My Office and Work.

My training at work is almost over. I get to move out of the training area cubicles and into a real office. I went looking for my new office found it today – it has my name on the outside of the door like I really belong there and am contributing a bit. I am a little sad that my training is over, I really like being in school. I would love to be a student forever.

I pulled this photo from another flickr user, this is what my office looks like – but I have a roommate and no window. I do have the space age chair, the brown furniture and the massive printer. And oh yes, I have will have all the random sheets of paper taped to the wall. Somehow the person who took this photo managed to crop out the huge twin monitors that make up the standard computer setup in the office.

Driving to work

Last week, Jeremy had a 2 day conference about 3 miles from my work. In order to take advantage of the HOV lanes, we decided to carpool. I’ve never driven to work, it takes me between 1h15m and 1h30m door to door and I do hear whisperings about people making it to work in 45 minutes and I wonder if I’m wasting my time taking public transit.

We did the drive together and the only place that there are HOV lanes is at the 270/495 interchange and it didn’t buy us that much time. I think I could save about 15 minutes by driving, but it’s a lot of stop and go and all over aggravating – also, it’s more expensive and worse for the environment, so I’m pleased with my Metro decision!
